The Siren

Her hair burned bright against the foam,
A beacon far from hearth or home,
She sang a song both sweet and dire,
That pulled his heart like molten fire.

He leaned across the creaking rail,
Bewitched by every haunting wail,
Until he leapt, no thought, no breath,
Into the sea’s embrace of death.

But in the depths where shadows glide,
Where sea beasts in the darkness bide,
She drew him gently to her keep…
A siren’s love, eternal, deep.
